Xiaomi Mi 4i update aims to fixing overheating problems
The Xiaomi Mi 4i, which was made official last month, has received an update aimed at fixing overheating issues. Sized at 804MB, the update (V6.5.4.0 LXIMICD) optimizes thermal control algorithms to fix the problem, the company claims.
"We’ve heard from some Mi 4i users that their devices can get warm under strenuous conditions such as complex 3D gaming and benchmarking apps," said Jai Mani, product manager, Xiaomi. "To address these concerns, we’ve optimized our thermal control algorithms to better regulate the temperature. The new thermal controls adjust frequency, voltage and the number of cores in use depending on the chipset temperature."
Powered by a Qualcomm MSM8939 Snapdragon 615 SoC with a quad-core 1.7 GHz Cortex-A53 CPU and Adreno 405 GPU, the device is currently available for purchase in India, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia at a price of about 207$ (INR 12,999).

Xiaomi Mi 4i arriving in Malaysia next week
The Mi 4i, which was made official by Xiaomi at a dedicated event in India last month, is set to launch in Malaysia on May 21.
Xiaomi unveils lighter and slimmer Mi 10000mAh power bank in China
Xiaomi has unveiled the Mi 10,000mAh Power Bank in China, a newer and slimmer version of the company’s 10,400mAh Power Bank which was launched August 2014. The device is now available on the Mi website in red, silver and Champagne colour variants. It is priced at CNY 69 (approximately Rs 711). No details have been provided as to when this device will launch in India.
Xiaomi says, “We’ve just introduced our latest 10,000mAh Mi power bank that’s 21.4% slimmer and 30% more energy dense than the 10,400mAh version! This means it can fully charge a Mi Note 2.1x, and iPad 1x.”
According to the company, the high density batteries’ import value has been reduced by 21.4 percent. It is almost similar in size to a business card and has a 30 percent increase in energy density. In terms of dimensions, the Mi 10,000mAh power bank is 60.4mm-wide and weighs 207 grams. Similar to the previous Xiaomi power bank, the new device sports a micro-USB slot, a USB slot for 5.1V/2.1A output and also offers LED notification lights.
This would be the fourth power bank which has launched this month. Previously, Asus launched a ZenPower 10,050mAh power bank in India at Rs 1,499 and OnePlus launched a 10,000mAh Power Bank at Rs 1,399. Also, Alongside both devices, Huawei also introduced a power bank dubbed Honor AP007 which sports a 13000mAh battery and is priced at Rs 1399.
All the above devices are slightly costlier than the Xiaomi power bank though they all have similar battery capacity offerings. It’s extra-affordable price factor could give the Mi 10,000mAh power bank an added advantage over the others when it is launched in India.

Xiaomi Mi 5, Mi 5 Plus get rumored specs, launch time frame
Details on the upcoming and highly anticipated Mi5 from Xiaomi have been leaked through Chinese social media site Weibo. Xiaomi has been dominating the China smartphone market in the past two years along with becoming the biggest manufacturer in China and one of the biggest in the world in just a short amount of time.
According to the leak, the Xiaomi Mi5 will feature a 5.2-inch screen, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 3GB or 4GB of RAM, a 16-megapixel rear camera, and a 3,000mAh battery. There’s also a rumor that the Mi5 may also be equipped with fingerprint ID technology. While the specifications of the Mi5 may not seem that different from its predecessor, the Mi4, it will come with the Snapdragon 810 which is widely considered as the current most powerful smartphone SoC so the performance of the Mi5 is expected to be impressive.
Additionally, a second phone was leaked today, a larger version of the Mi5 called the Mi5 Plus. According to the leak, the Mi5 Plus will feature a 6-inch 2K display with a bezel-less/borderless design as well as 4GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 16-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization. No other information on the Mi5 Plus has been released but it should be expected to feature the same processor as the Mi5 as the Snapdragon 810 is the best available chip at the moment.
While the exact date of release of both devices is still unknown, it’s expected that Xiaomi will launch both devices sometime in July as they did with the Mi4 last year.

Samsung beats Apple to regain top smartphone-maker crown in Q1 2015
While Apple became the world's top smartphone vendor in the fourth quarter of 2014, looks like Samsung has recaptured the crown in Q1, 2015.
According to a report from market research firm Strategy Analytics, Samsung captured 24% market share in the first quarter of the year, overtaking Apple, which claimed nearly 18%. It's worth mentioning that Samsung had captured 31% market in the year-ago quarter.
In terms of shipment numbers, the South Korean company shipped 83.2 million smartphones worldwide, while the Cupertino-based company shipped 61.2 million units.
"Samsung continued to face challenges in Asia and elsewhere, but its global performance has stabilized sufficiently well this quarter to overtake Apple and recapture first position as the world's largest smartphone vendor by volume," said Strategy Analytics Executive Director Neil Mawston.
Xiaomi tops Chinese market with 14% share
Xiaomi has maintained its top position in the Chinese smartphone market in the first quarter. According to a tweet (which cites a report from research firm IHS Technology) sent out by the company's India head, the company sold 14.2 million of the 99 million devices sold in the country in Q1.
This translates into 14% market share for the five year old company. Huawei and Apple followed with 11% share each, while Samsung and Vivo rounded up the top five with 10 and 9% market share, respectively.

Xiaomi Mi 5 might include a fingerprint sensor
Xiaomi is working to bring a fingerprint sensor to its high-end to mid-range smartphones. A new patent filing at the State Intellectual Property Office in China reveals a method of implementing fingerprint recognition to the buttons.

It is being estimated that the next Xiaomi flagship device might include the fingerprint sensor. While there is no confirmation on that, here is what the patent filing reveals:
“The device comprises a bottom fingerprint sensors and optical sensor provided in the terminal equipment of the cover glass; fingerprint identification circuit connected fingerprint sensor for fingerprint recognition sensor and the fingerprint information analysis and processing, obtain fingerprint analysis ; host processor, and an optical sensor and fingerprint identification circuit connections for the monitored optical sensor light information received to determine whether cover glass touch button operation; identity authentication based on fingerprint analysis results obtained fingerprint identification circuit."
Home button on the smartphones have become more than the button by integrating a fingerprint sensor. Premium devices such as iPhone 6 and Samsung Galaxy S6 include fingerprint sensor.
Xiaomi Mi 5 may feature 5.2” QHD display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 mobile chipset, 3GB of RAM, up to 64GB storage, 16MP rear camera, 8MP front-facing unit, and 3,600 mAh battery. We suggest to take these specs with a grain of salt and wait for a formal announcement.
