Apple updates MacBook with Skylake and Rose Gold

Apple recently announced the dates for their developer conference WWDC on June 13, where most of Apple's Mac lineup is updated but Apple has jumped the boots by announcing updated MacBooks and bumping MacBook Air 13 base config RAM from 4GB to 8GB.

While MacBook needed the update it is still a bit late with adoption of the 6th Gen Intel Core M processors. These processors were announced on September 1, 2015. Most people new there would be an update and which all processor could be used in MacBook. There are two configs one with Core m3 another with m5, but can be configured with m7 on Apple's site. The m3 version comes with 256GB SSD and m5 variant comes with 512GB SSD. The m3 (specifically m3-6Y30) is a Dual-Core clocked at 1.1GHz with Turbo Boost upto 2.2GHz. The m5 (m5 6Y57) hase a base clock of 1.2GHz and Turbo Boost upto 2.7GHz. Both comes with 4MB of L3 Cache. The m7 is the m7-6Y75 with 1.3GHZ -3.1GHz. The updated processors make it faster than a MacBook Air which was a bit faster than the 1st Gen MacBook. The integrated Graphics is also updated the Intel HD 515 which has same 24EUs but Gen 9 cores.

The processor isn't the only thing getting an update, RAM speed is upped from 1600MHz to 1866MHz, Storage speed is also improved to a noticeable extent. The battery has also received a welcome upgrade from 39.7Wh to 41.4Wh which may add an extra hour of usage.

Most of the updates are small but significant. Still there's only one Type-C that too Gen 1. So you will need adapters. Now there is an option for Rose Gold for the MacBook. The price remains same for m3 and m5 models at $1,299 and $1,599.

The MacBook Air has not received an processor upgrades but the base RAM config of 13-inch is bumped to 8GB which is not much of a upgrade. We can expect MacBook Pro to get a big update at WWDC.
