Dell announces updated XPS 12, XPS 13 and XPS 15 with Infinity Displays

Dell has released an update to XPS 12, XPS 13 and XPS 15. All the devices have got a major update to design and feel. All the devices now feature 6th Gen Intel Skylake processors and also features Edge-To-Edge displays which was first featured in XPS 13 infinity display. The laptops also features USB Type-C with Thunderbolt 3 specification which is also capable of charging the laptop.Unlike Apple, Dell has thrown in normal USB 3.0 ports for compatibility.

The common design features between the XPS 13 and XPS 15 is an Aluminium top and bottom with the interior made of Carbon Fiber composite for durability. The carbon fiber used will be from recycled or re-purposed process for a more environment friendly process.

XPS 15


The biggest update is to the XPS 15, the new model has got the Edge-To-Edge 4K "Infinty Display" display that the previous years XPS 13 offered, which makes the whole chassis of this 15.6-inch laptop in the same dimensions as a 14-inch laptop. In terms of internals the new modal features a 6th Gen Intel Skylake processors. The highest end model features an Intel Core i7 6700HQ (which could in the next Macbook pro update) and is accompanied by a NVIDIA GTX 960M graphics card. The RAM is configurable from 8 to 32GB in Dual-Channel DDR4-2133 manner. The storage is also configurable from 128GB to 1TB SSD or 500GB to 1TB HDD options, though the SSD is a proven ultimate choice. Dell is also promising a battery life of 17 hours which is excellent. The pricing starts at $999.

So the result is a portable 15 inch laptop which powerful and a worthy alternative for MacBook Pro. Unless the upcoming 2016 MacBook Pro update brings any notable change the XPS 15 will be the top pick for many.


XPS 13


The XPS 13 has just received minor upgrades as the previous model was one of the best in the segment. The new model takes up the spec bumb  much like the XPS 15's internals features the 6th gen Intel Skylake processors but dual core version only. It doesn't feature a dedicated Graphics card. 
The pricing starts at $799 for the base modal.

XPS 12


The XPS 12 is a hybrid device much like the Surface Book but a bit more Tablet centric. The keyboard dock holds the tablet but not much tight so not so good at the laptop part. In terms of specs it is available only with Intel Core m5-6Y54 (clocked at 1.1 to 2.7 GHz, dual-core 4.5W Skylake architecture). It also features 8GB of DDR3 RAM and storage can be configured in either 128GB or 256GB.  The display is available in either Full HD with 100% sRGB coverage or 3840X2160 with 100% Adobe RGB coverage. Pricing starts at $999 for the base model.
